PIEZO1 and Tangier disease: Mechanotransduction research entered a new era with the identification and demonstration of Piezo1 channels, which has greatly advanced the understanding of its physiological and pathophysiological significance of this process, human diseases, biophysical properties, and molecular mechanisms.62,63 Piezo1 has a physiological role as a mechanotransducer necessary for vascular development, remodeling and controlling blood pressure, cell migration and stem cell fate determination.64–66 However, the association between Piezo1-related manifestations and iron overload or ferroptosis is unclear.
