VEGFA and neoplasm: Neutrophils can release factors like vascular endothelial growth factor and matrix metalloproteinases that promote angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels within the tumor.[66] Angiogenesis facilitates the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tumor, supporting its growth.[67] Neutrophils can exert immunosuppressive effects by inhibiting the activity of other immune cells, such as T cells and natural killer cells, within the tumor microenvironment.[68] This immunosuppression can hinder the body’s ability to mount an effective anti-tumor immune response.
