Through its multi-kinase inhibitory properties, including inhibition of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), it has been postulated ponatinib causes endothelial dysfunction and hypertension, and can promote proatherogenic surface adhesion receptors thus increasing the risk of vascular occlusive events (Table 3; Chan et al., 2020).
