After adjustment for confounding factors in the logistic regression analysis (sex, age, hypertension, dyslipidemia, triglyceride concentration, diabetes duration, use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and statin), a nominal association was observed: the rare allele G conferred protection against DR (OR = 0.63; 95% CI = 0.41–0.96; p = 0.032). The gene discussed is ACE; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
