The protein target of miR-29a is a carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 (CEACAM6), a glycoprotein that mediates cell–cell interactions and is involved in cell adhesion, proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis (Beauchemin et al., 1999; Blumenthal et al., 2005) and that is overexpressed in a wide variety of carcinomas (Blumenthal et al., 2007; Zang et al., 2017). Here, CEACAM6 is linked to carcinoma.
