Clade C Mammarenaviruses are unique from Clades A, B and A–B in that they share a major receptor (α-Dystroglycan, or α-DG) and coreceptor with Guanarito virus (etiological agent for Venezuelan hemorrhagic fever) and Old World Mammarenaviruses already associated with Lassa fever and Lymphocytic choriomeningitis [13,55]. The gene discussed is DAG1; the disease is hemorrhagic fever.
