The pathogenesis of multifactorial anemia in SARS-CoV-2-infected individuals encompasses several mechanisms, including potential hemolysis induced by viral entry through erythrocyte membrane receptors [31], impaired erythropoiesis due to hematopoietic precursor invasion [32,33,34], and altered iron metabolism driven by pro-inflammatory cytokine-mediated upregulation of hepcidin [24,35].
