Lorente Pons et al. demonstrated the potential significance of MBP in ALS through a post-mortem analysis of both sporadic ALS and C9orf72-related ALS cases, identifying a significant reduction in MBP protein abundance when normalised to the proteolipid protein (PLP) in the spinal cord corticospinal tracts in ALS cases in comparison to controls [52]. Here, C9orf72 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
