The presence of APAs impacts accelerated atherosclerosis and may lead to cardiovascular complications through multiple mechanisms, such as inhibition of the attachment of the plaque stabilizing and antithrombotic plasma protein, annexin-V to the endothelium, as well as the increase in lipid peroxidation, or the identification of the oxidated phospholipids [22,23]. This evidence concerns the gene ANXA5 and atherosclerosis.
