Th17 cells predominantly promote inflammatory reactions through the secretion of IL-17, which in turn induces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-α, IL-6, interferon IFN-γ) that contribute to tissue invasion, irreversible damage to joint cartilage and bone, and the accelerated onset of autoimmune diseases [45, 46].
