In a previous study of 1109 patients from the same cohort using a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model, three biomarkers [tumour necrosis factor–related apoptosis-inducing ligand receptor 2 (TRAIL-R2), ovarian cancer–related tumour marker [cancer antigen 125 (CA-125)] and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23)] among 175 were identified as predictors of all-cause mortality in crude and age-/sex-adjusted analyses, but none of these remained predictive in a fully adjusted model [17]. The gene discussed is FGF23; the disease is ovarian cancer.
