The E6 and E7 oncoproteins, which play a key role in the development of cervical cancer and are encoded by the HPV genome reduce the expression levels of tumor suppressor proteins P53 and RB, which eventually leads to enhanced cell proliferation and reduced apoptosis and promotes the development of cervical cancer (Goodwin and DiMaio, 2000). The gene discussed is RB1; the disease is cervical cancer.
