In gastrointestinal tumors (colon tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors—GIST), we first characterized the activity of mTOR complexes, based on the amount of mTORC1 and mTORC2 scaffold proteins, and classified Hungarian colon tumor cases into three main groups (low Raptor and high Rictor expression—high mTORC2 activity; high Raptor and low Rictor expression—high mTORC1 activity; similar levels of Raptor and Rictor expression—balanced mTORC1 and mTORC2 activity). The gene discussed is RPTOR; the disease is gastrointestinal stromal tumor.
