Upon activation by NLRP3 inflammasome, Caspase-1 can cleave Gasdermin D (GSDMD) to form GSDMD-N, which bounds to phosphatidylinositol phosphates and phosphatidylserine presented in the inner leaflet of cell membrane [14,15], and induces the pyroptosis during the intracellular infection by S. aureus [16]. The gene discussed is GSDMD; the disease is infection.
