Five patients died within 90 days after surgery; death was due to anastomotic dehiscence and peritonitis in 1 patient and myocardial infarction in 2 patients in the MOABP group, and due to aspiration pneumonia in 1 patient and cirrhosis of the liver with acute kidney injury in another patient in the MBP plus placebo group. Here, MBP is linked to aspiration pneumonitis.
