The regulation of this pathway by WWP2 is important, as inhibition of glycolysis has been reported to decrease renal fibrosis in UUO via proximal tubular cells–fibroblast crosstalk,90 as well as in myofibroblasts.23 Moreover, we showed how WWP2 deficiency upregulates the pentose phosphate pathway, including glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase–catalyzed reaction. The gene discussed is G6PD; the disease is renal fibrosis.
