Consistent with this, sialidase inhibitors DANA and oseltamivir (Tamiflu) strongly attenuated pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin in the mouse model [8, 59] C9-pentylamide analogues of DANA show the inhibition potency toward NEU1 [57], C9-butyl-amide-2-deoxy-2,3-dehydro-N-acetylneuraminic acid (C9-BA-DANA), turned out to be the most selective inhibitor for NEU1, inhibited endogenous and ectopically expressed sialidase activity [58, 60]. The gene discussed is NEU1; the disease is pulmonary fibrosis.
