STAT3 and cancer: The antitumor activity of nifuratel mostlikely involves inhibitionof a signal transducer and an activator of transcription 3 (STAT3).20 In addition, it may block interleukin-6-inducedactivation of the STAT3 signaling pathway, hence inhibiting tumorcell proliferation, inducing apoptosis, and reducing induced apoptosis, and reduce the growth of gastric cancer cells.20 On the contrary to clotrimazole, the anticancer activityof nifuratel, until now detected only against human gastric cancercells, is not selective, as it affects both normal and cancer cells.20,21
