Investigating the pathophysiology of hypertension is still a work in progress as several mechanisms, including increased sympathetic drive, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system activation, receptor-mediated vasoconstriction or impaired vasodilation, increased reactive oxygen species, genetic influences, and several other immune-mediated mechanisms, all work together to contribute to hypertension [7,8]. The gene discussed is REN; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
