Germline mutations of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A) gene, which encodes two tumor suppressor proteins (p16INK4a and p14ARF) involved in cell division control, cyclin-dependent kinase-4 (CDK4), telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT), and the protection of telomere-1 (POT1) genes, are associated with melanoma [5]. This evidence concerns the gene TERT and melanoma.
