Indeed, increased activity of SIRT1 improves cell outcome in ischemia-reperfusion in liver and neurodegenerative diseases [3,4] through the deacetylation and activation of the transcription factor peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator (PGC1) and inhibition of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) amongst others.
