Due to IFI6 being located in the mitochondrial membrane and its elevated expression being associated with poor prognosis, numerous research works have been conducted to demonstrate the relationship between IFI6 and mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) in cancer treatment mechanisms: Venugopalan Cheriyath et al. reported that G1P3 (IFI6)-induced mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) play a direct role in the formation of migratory structures and the expression of nuclear genes, promoting metastasis in breast cancer cells [14].
