Even though most cases of EH and EC are isolated, some genetic diseases significantly increase the risk, such as Lynch Syndrome, also known as hereditary non-polyposis colonic cancer (HNPCC), caused by a mutation in one of the genes involved in the DNA repair system (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and EP-CAM) [9]. Here, MLH1 is linked to hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer.
