BPIFB4 and cardiomyopathy: Homozygous carriers of LAV-BPIFB4 haplotype have higher circulating BPIFB4 levels, increased phosphorylated endothelial nitric oxide synthase in circulating mononuclear cells, lower atherosclerotic risk and preserved pericyte ensheathment of microvessels during aged cardiomyopathy [6, 8–10], suggesting that enhanced qualities and increased circulating quantities may account for the benefit of carrying the LAV-BPIFB4 gene.
