SERF family proteins including human SERF1a (Falsone et al. 2012; Meyer et al. 2020), SERF2 (Stroo et al. 2023), C. elegans MOAG-4 (van Ham et al. 2010) and yeast SERF (Meinen et al. 2019) have been shown to promote amyloid formation of proteins that have been associated with fatal neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington diseases.
