The etiology of this condition remains uncertain; however, a number of potential factors have been identified, including a familial predisposition to TC, tobacco use, inadequate iodine intake, obesity, previous exposure to radiation (especially in childhood), high TSH levels, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and elevated leptin levels [2,14,15]. The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
