NR3C1 (GR; exon 1F promoter) ↓: in PBMCs from combat veterans with PTSD compared with combat-exposed veterans who did not develop PTSD. Methylation inversely correlated with clinical markers and symptoms associated with PTSD. This was also associated with functional measures such as suppressed lysozyme (in vitro measure of GR sensitivity) and decreased urinary cortisol. The gene discussed is NR3C1; the disease is post-traumatic stress disorder.
