In conclusion, we used a representative in vivo model of ALI that mimics specific features of ARDS, such as severe lung damage, a neutrophilic inflammatory response, protein-rich fluid infiltration, and deterioration of lung compliance, to study the role of the K+ channel KvLQT1, in the development and resolution of the acute phase of ARDS. The gene discussed is KCNQ1; the disease is acute respiratory distress syndrome.
