M. tuberculosis PGLs are found in hypervirulent Lineage2 strains such as HN878.8,9 These PGLs have beenshown to suppress the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α,IL-6, and MCP-1.7,8,10 Inthe zebrafish infection model, M. marinum PGLs allow bacterial transfer to permissive monocytes11 through the production of CCL2.12 Overall, PGLs are important virulence factors that giverise to immunomodulatory host responses.13,14. Here, CCL2 is linked to infection.
