The loss of dopamine-producing neurons in the substantia nigra and an accumulation of aberrant α-synuclein protein aggregates are the hallmarks of Parkinson’s disease, a complicated neurodegenerative condition (Eriksen et al., 2003; Stefanis, 2012; Meade et al., 2019; Gomez-Benito et al., 2020; Srinivasan et al., 2021; Wise et al., 2022). This evidence concerns the gene SNCA and Parkinson disease.
