From a clinical perspective, the analyzed GST polymorphisms cannot be used as markers of an increased risk of developing periodontitis in the Caucasian population, in contrast to the Asian population, where the presence of GSTT1 and a mutant allele (G) at rs1695 in the GSTP1 gene may be considered risk factors for genetic susceptibility to these disorders. The gene discussed is GSTP1; the disease is periodontitis.
