It should be emphasized that gasdermins‐mediated pyroptosis is not necessarily harmful to health, as pyroptosis also contributes to normal physiology.[31] GSDMD‐dependent canonical pyroptosis has been recently shown to protect against noninfectious liver injury by regulating apoptosis and necroptosis.[19] Deletion of GSDMD can even trigger more severe sepsis‐related liver damage.[32] Thus, the role of inflammasome‐related pyroptosis in liver injury has become controversial recently.
