MGMT and brain neoplasm: Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most common malignant brain tumors with an abysmal prognosis despite multimodal treatments consisting of maximal safe resection followed by radiation and chemotherapy with temozolomide.1 Methylation of the gene’s promoter region encoding the O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) is a predictive and prognostic factor in GBM patients.2–4 Although the benefit of presurgical identification of MGMT promoter methylation (pMGMT-met) of GBMs is debatable, it may help clinicians and patients choose the most appropriate treatment strategy.
