Remarkably, eight genes exhibited similar or even higher levels of essentiality compared to the well-known oncogene MYC48 (Supplementary Data 8), including PHF5A, EIF2S2 in basal cell carcinoma, RPS23, DYNC1I2, POLR3C and RPAIN in breast cancer, UTP4 in skin cancer, PHF5A in cancer of female genital organs and CACTIN in cancer of male genital organs. This evidence concerns the gene RPS23 and breast carcinoma.
