DUSP2 and endometriosis: There is also a large body of research evidence indicating that miRNAs are important participants in the adaptive response of cells to hypoxia, but only a few reports have described the role of hypoxia-related miRNAs in the endometrium; for example, hypoxia-induced miR-20a targeting inhibits the expression of the DUSP2 protein, and the downregulation of DUSP2 expression activates the signaling cascade of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), thereby promoting angiogenesis and cell proliferation in endometriosis lesions (Lin et al., 2012).
