NPPB and hydrops fetalis: A possible explanation for the correlation between increased levels of MPV and increased levels of NT-proBNP is that since NT-proBNP is a biomarker released as a consequence of the activation of compensatory neurohormonal mechanisms in decompensated heart failure, and thus is a biomarker linked to the aggravation of the clinical status in HF patients, this is the reason why HF patients with increased levels of NT-proBNP may also have increased levels of MPV.
