A study examining multiple cohorts of CRC patients found significant upregulation of various genes related to sphingolipid metabolism, the most prevalent being acid ceramidase (ASAH1), sphingosine kinases 1 and 2 (SPHK1, SPHK2), and S1PR1 and 4 (S1PR1, S1PR4) [9]. Here, ASAH1 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
