Ang II binds to the AT1R receptor, causing increased sympathetic tone, decreased parasympathetic tone, decreased baroreflex sensitivity, increased blood pressure, vasoconstriction, decreased nitric oxide (NO) synthesis, aldosterone, and antidiuretic hormone release (ADH); Ang II also promotes myocardial hypertrophy, increases cardiac fibrosis, has a proinflammatory effect, increases the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and decreases natriuresis.
