C5AR1 and glaucoma: Together, these studies implicate the importance of C5 activation in the pathogenesis of glaucoma and could be a potential new therapeutic target, but additional studies are required to fully elucidate the relative importance of the downstream cleavage fragments C5a and its receptors C5aR1 and C5b and the initiation of glia activation and inflammation versus MAC formation in the pathogenesis of glaucoma.
