Zhang et al. demonstrated in an immunohistochemical analysis of 17 cardiac myxoma tissues that MCP-1 was found in the cytoplasm of the myxoma cells, and that the proportions of MCP-1-positive myxoma cells were significantly correlated with an increased micro-vessel count [37], suggesting the role of MCP-1 in angiogenesis associated with tumor growth. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is myxoma.
