Given that DM patients have been reported to have lower levels of CTBP1-AS2 in their peripheral blood mononuclear cells [29] and replenishing CTBP1-AS2 expression can prevent high glucose-induced diabetic nephropathy [31], the prospect of employing this lncRNA as a targeted therapeutic approach or even a diagnostic marker in individuals with DP holds considerable promise.
