The inverse correlation of serum FT4 with total cholesterol also seems to be consistent with earlier knowledge; hypercholesterolemia is known to be largely due to acquired LDL receptor deficiency in NS [18], while hypothyroidism reduces fractional clearance of LDL due to loss of hepatic LDL receptor density and activity [15] (Figure S1). This evidence concerns the gene LDLR and familial hypercholesterolemia.
