The role of nerve cell-derived VIP has been implicated in promoting eosinophilic inflammation in allergic diseases [43,44,45,46], so we hypothesized that VIP, along with eotaxin, may have a role in the accumulation of eosinophils and mast cells in each segment of the esophagus in human EoE. This evidence concerns the gene VIP and eosinophilic esophagitis.
