Gene clustering results for KEGG pathways are shown in Fig. 1B. The KEGG term with the highest significance detected was “calcium signalling pathway”, which included the genes ADORA2B, CACNA1E, CAMK1D, CAMK1G, CAMK2A, CHRM2, GRIN2B, ITPKB, LOC100154782, MCOLN2, MYLK, NFATC3, PDGFD, PHKB, PPP3CC, RYR2, and VDAC1. Since epilepsy is a disease associated with ion channel dysfunction, these genes have a high probability to being causative for the seizure phenotype under investigation in this study. This evidence concerns the gene GRIN2B and epilepsy.
