MYH9 and blood platelet disease: Recent findings show that impaired platelet contractility is (1) causative for bleeding in MYH9-related disease (MYH9-RD) [2], a hereditary platelet disorder with mutations in the MYH9 gene coding for the nonmuscle myosin IIA heavy chain; (2) prevalent in patients with other cytoskeletal defects or bleeding of unknown cause [3]; (3) a hallmark for the action of aspirin and P2Y12 inhibitors in vitro and in cardiology patients [4]; and (4) indicative of bleeding risk in patients with trauma [4].
