CAD is a pro-inflammatory immune-mediated disease in which chemokines and chemokine receptors, such as C–C chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2, also known as MCP-1) and C–C chemokine receptor (CCR2), are critical for the attraction of various leukocytes to the arterial intima (Moore and Tabas, 2011).
