Our recent in vivo study on wasp venom-induced AKI showed that cilastatin can significantly reduce the nephrotoxicity of wasp venom by blocking the reabsorption of myoglobin in renal tubular cells by megalin, reducing the concentration of myoglobin in the blood, and increasing the clearance of myoglobin in the urine [41]. The gene discussed is LRP2; the disease is acute kidney injury.
