Lp‐PLA2‐mediated cytokines can promote matrix metalloproteinase in atherosclerosis plaques and protease expression, and matrix metalloproteinases degrade the fibrous cap and collagen matrix and other components of the plaque, leading to plaque rupture and bleeding, which leads to the development of ischemic stroke (J. Wang et al., 2021; F. Zhang et al., 2021). The gene discussed is PLA2G7; the disease is ischemic stroke.
