Since disrupted balance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitter signaling is observed in ASD and epilepsy (35), we examined whether such balance might be disrupted in the mbd5 mutants by analyzing the expression of excitatory neurotransmitter marker vesicular glutamate transporter (vglut2a) (Supplemental Figure S1EA-C’), the inhibitory neurotransmitter marker glutamate decarboxylase 1b (gad1b) (Supplemental Figure S1ED-F’), as well as tyrosine hydroxylase (th) (Supplemental Figure S1EG-H’) and glycine transporter (glyt2) (Supplemental Figure S1EI-K’). This evidence concerns the gene TH and epilepsy.
