MAPT and tauopathy: We demonstrate in vivo that a high tau burden in brain regions involved in direct or indirect pathways of the basal ganglia of patients with 4R-tauopathies is associated with aggravated loss of DaT availability in the striatum as visualized by [123I]-Ioflupane SPECT, supporting the role of tau pathology as a potential driver for dopaminergic dysfunction.
